Hirers
of RYA East training boats and fleets are requested to ensure they wash
down the boats or boards thoroughly on arrival and again before they
leave the club site to return to our base at Otley. The wash down on
site and before returning to us is vital to ensure no nasties, such as
Dikerogammarus villosus, the dreaded Killer Shrimp, are moved around the
region on our boats and trailers. Anyone failing to do this simple
hygiene process is not only endangering other clean waters, but is in
danger of being refused use of the regional fleets in the future.

Nigel
Mower is the region’s new Fleets Booking Manager, in charge of running
the new on-line booking system. Nigel is also taking on responsibility
for co-ordinating the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship events in this
region. Nigel is a qualified power boat driver, retired Sailing
Instructor as well as yachtsman. Nigel, known also as Baldrick, is
chairman of the Harwich Area Sailing Association (HASA) and in the past
has done stints as Moorings secretary at Pin Mill SC when the local
council first introduced mooring charges, as Commodore of Haven Ports YC
and as Chairman of the Felixstowe Regatta organising committee.
He spent many happy years as an Instructor at the Neptune Youth Group
for Suffolk Water Sports. He now concentrates his racing on the Haven
Series but used to compete in both the Sail East and EAORA races both in
his own boat and as crew with friends. He recently retired as a Service
Delivery Manager in BT.
Baldrick first learned to sail with the Sea Scouts on the river Deben (Martlesham
Creek) early in 1960’s. He used to play night games on whalers up and
down the Deben. Married with, four children and four grand-children,
he’s keen to see participation in sailing grow, particularly in the
younger generations.
Commenting on his appointment Regional Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the
Training Panel Garth Cooper said: “I’ve worked with Baldrick in a number
of different guises and I know he will be a welcome addition to the work
of the Training Panel. His experience ranging from introducing younger
family members to sailing, to running a number of important committees
and bodies, will be valuable to us.”
Nigel can be contacted on 01473 780397, or E-mail
nigel.mower@Talk21.com.
Club contacts will shortly receive an email from Sailracer giving
them an individual code number and pre-set password, for logging on to
the new on-line training fleet booking system. KEEP IT SAFE. Without it
you won’t be able to use the system. Please ensure that if you are not
the person who normally books our boats that you pass the information on
to the relevant person. They can of course request to be put on the
system as your club boat booker.
All you need to do is click on the link on this page or in the training
panel on the Home Page to be taken straight to the RYA East On-line
Booking System hosted by Sailracer. For those of you who already use the
Sailracer systems of conference, course and regatta bookings the concept
will be well known. Saves time, saves paper, saves hassle.
THE PROCESS:

Click the Fleet Bookings button and you’ll arrive here: to see if the
fleet(s) you want are available when you need them; click on
Availability/Booking in the navigation bar.
You arrive at Screen 2: this gives you an overview of what fleets are
booked out and when. The breaks in the solid bars against a fleet
indicate a booking. Having chosen your fleet and dates, click on the
Reserve Fleet button at the bottom of the page. (If you get an error
warning at this stage it almost certainly means you’ve overlapped with a
previous booking and the system won’t let you go any further. Go back
and re-assess your dates.)
This will take you to Screen 3, the club log-on; enter your secure code
and password. (This stops outsiders making spoof reservations).

Screen 4 comes up and using the two calendar panels scroll through to
the month and click on the dates to start on the left calendar and to
finish on the right calendar. Then enter the details of the person
making the booking in the panel on the right along with an email address
and click ‘submit’.

The system automatically sends you an E-mail containing the details of
the fleet(s), dates of hire and telling you you’ll get a further email
confirming your booking once it has been checked by the Fleets Booking
Manager. With the second email will come a pro-forma invoice showing the
fees and arrangements for collecting the fleet(s). Print this off – it
is the only piece of paper generated from the process.
We strongly recommend you go to the Documentation section on the
navigation bar and download a copy of our terms and the data sheet for
the type of fleet you are hiring: either windsurf or dinghy. Please read
these carefully. Again these have been simplified and condensed and you
may wish to print them off – there are important changes to our terms of
business you should note.

Got a problem? Mucked it up, don’t worry there are people to help you.
This screen gives you the details of the people you need to contact;
both for technical help and booking advice.
Each trailer has a list of the fleet components inside the box lid.
Please check that the boats/boards are clean when you arrive to take
them away. And check also that all the equipment on the checklist is
indeed in the box. If not call the Fleets Booking Manager immediately.
Problems of broken or lost equipment can’t be dealt with once the fleet
leaves our depot site.
All fleets are picked up from our depot at Otley College near Ipswich
and are returned to the site immediately after the completion of the
period, unless otherwise arranged and agreed in writing by the Fleets
Booking Manager. (If you have problems returning a fleet contact the
Fleets Manager for advice). We insist on the fleets coming back to Otley
immediately after a hire period to allow us to check, clean and service
the equipment and trailers before it goes on to the next hirer.
All payments go with the invoice direct to Regional Treasurer Peter
Woods at the end of the hire period.
Here you can download a poster to put on the club notice board Poster.
Current Costs (February 2011)
To hire a single fleet of training dinghies will cost:
First day £70 Second Day £60 Subsequent days £35 per
day.
These costs apply to the Topper, Optimist and Windsurf fleets.
The cost of hiring the new Laser 4000 (2 boats) is £50 a day for the
whole period of hire.
To hire any of the regional training fleets go to the regional website at www.ryaeast.org and log-on to the On-Line Booking System, hosted for us by SailRacer, via the links on the home page or the fleets page www.ryaeast.org/fleets There is a detailed explanation of how to use the system on the fleets page, just follow the logical sequence. Every club in the region has been given a secure code and numeric password all of its own.
